North and South

For weeks I followed everything you said
I read the thoughts that came out of your head
Heard the promising sounds that came out of your mouth
Watched your seductive walk; I went north you went south

I tasted the dryness of my tongue
As you walked by I smelled the sun
I spoke a word that made no sound
My feet gave way to your solid ground

I thought I knew you well enough
I took my soft and made it tough
But in the end your stride was steady
You moved right by someone who’s ready
